hey all,
this is really just going to be a short update before I go to sleep. :)
man, attachment at the HCC is boring! today was my first day and, like all first days, it was lonely cuz i did not know anyone there and none of them looked familiar anyway cuz they're all from the West. haha.
i spent half my time shadowing my mentor and looking at how she conserves the artefacts, which, i must admit, is pretty cool. have decided i'm WAY not cut out to be a conservator but that's another story for another day. the other half of my time i spent reading damn boring books she gave me. i mean, i like museums and all, but how can anyone be entertained for 3 hours on a book titled: "The Handbook for Museums"?! so yeah, my mentor 'discovered' that i like reading and so she promptly handed me another 4 books to read. they're worse, actually. stuff on basketry in the Phillippines, old Chinese furniture and whatnot. siggggh.
heavens!
so yeah, i dread going there tomorrow, especially since i have to wake up so early and all. but hey, it's just 8 MORE DAYS TO GO! :))
looking forward to meeting the guys again tmr night. :)
update you on my terrible situation soon! :)

okay, so here are the pictures! these are the 12 (or 11?) apostles. very very pretty geological formations at the coastline along the Great Ocean Road. they're stacks and stumps and collapsed arches, mind you. :) this is at Port Campbell.
hmmm. the Great Ocean Road! it's actually one of the best places to drive along in the whole wide world. :)) but since Kai and I can't drive, we'll probably hire some tour or ride on the many buses available. cool huh!
errr. i still think this is the Great Ocean Road. :)
this is the winery in Yarra Valley. siggggh. Kai wants to spend an entire day tasting wine. HUH. i'm gonna get drunk for all Australians to see! :/
oh and btw, these and other pictures may be found here.

4:35 PM watching movies is actually quite tiring work. haha. okay, that sounds kinda spoiled but hey, i told you i was gonna slack my entire week off! :)
i just finished watching The Departed and man is it a depressing movie. almost everyone died in the end, like all other mafia shows. haha. but i'd just like to say that i really really like leo dicaprio! :))
and funnily enough, i don't like him cuz he's cute or anything. i mean hey, everyone figured that out in Titanic and back then I didn't like him. i thought he was too much of a pretty boy then and though one must applaud him for his acting (sob, sob) in that damn movie, i wasn't terribly impressed. so you can just imagine how bewildered i was to find out that i actually am beginning to like Leo diCaprio, fancy name and all. haha! :)
i LOVED his perfomances in both Blood Diamond and The Departed. can't really decide which one i liked better and maybe that's why he was nominated for the Oscars TWICE for these two roles. hmmm. gotta like that brooding look though. it always gets to me in the end.
haha. don't mind me if this entire blog post is about Leo. am still traumatised after watching The Departed. man is it depressing! but good all the same. can't say that i prefer Infernal Affairs to this. haha. can't choose cuz both are as DEPRESSING and as COMPLICATED. so what the hell. i just like the fact that they choose good and mind you, cute actors for both series. i mean no one can go wrong with Leo diCaprio, Matt Damon, Edison Chen and Shawn Yue right? :))
ahha. okay okay, so maybe i like Leo better now cuz he looks more rugged. what can i say?? :)
am going to post pictures of him soon (if i can find any that doesn't make him look like a pretty boy).
in the meantime, here are other, perhaps not as pleasing, pictures of where i'll be headed come June.
Melbourne and the Great Ocean Road! :))
siggghhh. meanwhile, i'll be waiting for Justin's call tonight like any other dutiful girlfriend. haha. damn but i hate the army for taking him away from me. :(

i've come to rant again. sadly, this is the only place where i can go to to rant.
i missed 45 minutes of the Phantom of the Opera! okay, so mine was the cheapest ticket available but still! i rushed all the way from the zoo on Sunday and i DID arrive just on time (albeit after half-running and half-power walking through Citilink) but guess what, dumb old me went to the wrong theatre! i went into the concert hall and my heart just sunk. i was like, "OOPS!" So in the end i reached the CORRECT theatre at 2.15pm and they didn't let me in till about 2.45pm.
*pout*
i am really upset you know. spoiled my entire day! and i just HAD to miss the Phantom of the Opera and Music of the Night songs!!!!!!! AARGH. dammit but i think i will buy another ticket to watch it again. i mean, it wasn't THAT good but it is enough to make me want to watch it again. i mean, it's not the original London cast but how often does the Phantom of the Opera come to Singapore anyway?! the guy acting as Raoul was pretty cute though. :))
anyhow, it's my last week before i go to HCC for my attachment. SIGH. it's a super long ride there. like 1 hour plus? and work starts at 8.15am so guess what time i have to wake up?? :(
and so, i'm determined to spend my last week as leisurely and as lazily as possible! i spent my entire day today watching some old Jap drama. heh.
though i will be doing some productive stuff too! have been tasked by Kai to research on some stuff for our Melbourne trip. we met up today at Compass and i think we were giggling half the time at the library cafe. haha! :) Kai, as usual, wants to know if she can request to have a CUTE guide when we go trekking.. aargh! does it matter?! haha.
what matters most is that we go to the Great Ocean Road! it's so PREEETTTYYY! i'll post pictures when i have the chance. haha. i am determined to spend as many days there as possible and try to take Kai's mind off some weird places she wants to go to! man, woman but do we really have to go to the gaol??? it's a prison for goodness' sake! i'll be scared. :(( i'd rather go white-water rafting instead (hint hint). :))
yep, and if we really have some time left, though that's unlikely, we may just visit Patty in Sydney! how cool is that? :) can't wait to go to Australia! just gotta work till i drop before then. haha. :)
oh and lastly, anyone free to watch the Arsenal match with Kai and I this weekend? it's the important one - Liverpool vs. Arsenal - and i thought it'd be cool to watch such a big match for the first time at our Arsenal home here in Singapore. and that would be the Princess Elizabeth bar if i'm not wrong. haha. *shrugs* ain't no better time to watch it right?? :))
go Arsenal!

Don't you ever wish
You were someone else
You were meant to be
The way you are exactly
Don't you ever say
You don't like the way you are
When you learn to love yourself
You're better off by far
And I hope you always stay the same
'Cause there's nothing 'bout you I would change
I think that you could be
Whatever you wanted to be
If you could realize
All the dreams you have inside
Don't be afraid
If you've got something to say
Just open up your heart
And let it show you the way
Don't you ever wish
You were someone else
You were meant to be
The way you are exactly
Don't you ever say
You don't like the way you are
When you learn to love yourself
You're better off by far
And I hope you always stay the same
'Cause there's nothing 'bout you I would change
Believe in yourself
Reach down inside
The love you find will set you free
Believe in yourself
You will come alive
Have faith in what you do
You'll make it through
Don't you ever wish
You were someone else
You were meant to be
The way you are exactly
Don't you ever say
You don't like the way you are
When you learn to love yourself
You're better off by far
And I hope you always stay the same
'Cause there's nothing 'bout you I would change
No, there's nothing 'bout you I would change..
Don't change..

yes, i'm a sucker for old cheesy love songs, i know. :)

6:03 PM it's been raining for most of the afternoon and i must say that it's put me in a philosophical mood. the sound of the rain pattering on the roof is a really pretty sound don't you think? :)
i keep forgetting, at times like this, what it feels like to have everything - a home, family, friends, loved ones and a chance to enter university!
i really should convince myself that i've achieved what i've set out to achieve : to be desperately and wildly happy with life.
Look here to see why i've just been chastised. It's got a Christian message but, under it all, it is very true, no matter what religion you have (or don't have!) it's about life. :)
live and let live, i say!

here are my last few pictures of Inle lake. this is my hotel! right on the lake and so it's just damn cold at night! but in the morning it's very picturesque because i get to see the sunrise from my bed! and it rises over the mountains surrounding the lake and, eventually, over the waters of the lake. you rarely get to see and feel such serenity these days and i treasured every minute i spent there, especically at Inle lake. particularly since i'm such a water person. i love the sea and water!
this is the last of my pictures, as seen from within the boat that we used to get around the lake. mind you, it's a huge lake and we took 45 minutes to get from our hotel to another floating restaurant in the middle of the lake. ahha. still, very soothing.
all in all, Myanmar was a surprise and more than that, it was a soothing getaway for me. i loved it but if you can't appreciate the countryside or if you don't see the beauty in taking walks around pagodas that have stood for centuries.. places like these don't offer shopping and they don't have wild entertainment, but they have awesome customer service and warm people. i loved Myanmar and it was certainly, one of the most beautiful places i've visited. if it doesn't appeal then don't go really.
i'd hate to see the stark and untouched beauty of the country be wasted on someone who wouldn't appreciate it. seriously.

2:09 PM okay so i guess you can't tell but this is Bagan, as mentioned in a previous blog post. perhaps you can see more pagodas in the light of the dusk in these two pictures.
Bagan again. :)
errr. this looks like a painting huh? err. if i'm not wrong, this is still Bagan. damn but it's cold there. about 15 degrees celsius at night. they don't have streetlamps too so it's pitch dark and cold at night. haha. cool huh.
hmmm. this is at Inle, in the Shan state, which is somewhere in central Myanmar. very pretty lake and the best part is that the lake is, on average, 2-3m deep! so yeah, i wasn't that scared when i sat on those thin and fragile-looking power boats. these people you see here are sorta fishermen. they catch fish and gather seaweed to sell. by the way, it's even colder here, since it's a lake and all. my legs froze at night. :(

1:57 PM okay, so here's another picture of the countryside. err. as you can see, there is only a single tree in a HUGE expanse of fields and more fields. it's actually really pretty though. and very hot too. but you can't tell at all from my horrid picture-taking. haha. sorry.
ooh! next two pictures just show how traumatised i was. see all those people climing onto the back of the truck? i was one of them! we climbed onto the truck like idiots and sat there, squashed in between 50 other people (the truck's quite big) as we made our way up the mountain. it's actually a pretty fearsome way to tavel up the mountain. but there's no other way to ascend so yeah, we couldn't help it. it was a one-way thing and i think the driver had this reckless thing going on cuz he sped up a 45 degree inclined slope! my heart stopped like most of the way and so that's why i don't have any pictures of myself going up the mountain. too busy clutching the sides of the truck! sorry. :(
yeah, see the people and the truck! never ever going up the damn truck again.
oooh. this is a nice pagoda huh? about 1000 years old! so pretty! made entirely of clay and stone from a nearby river i think. :)

1:51 PM here are more picture of Myanmar. damn but i can't figure out how to post pictures using the Flock thing. *pulls hair* so yeah, i'm back to using Picasa. I can only post 4 pictures at a time so bear with me. :) here's another pagoda. if i'm not wrong, it's in Yangon. pretty huh?
this is sorta like the city square somewhere in Yangon. very nice.
oh! i remember this was taken on our first day there at Yangon. just around sunset. :)
hmmm. we just managed to take a picture of this while the van sped at close to a 100km/h (i think). he was driving so fast on an isolated road! :( you can see that this place sure is isolated though. just lots of fields and err cows everywhere. it really is the countryside.

1:41 PM hello all!
am in quite a happy mood today! (notice my lack of vocabulary) just finished all my household chores and will be going shopping later with Kai! that's so nice. :))
i already bought a dress and a shirt yesterday with her and though i can just see my money going down the drain i'm happy!
i just have to watch my spending cuz i need to save most of my money for the Melbourne trip with Kai. drats. hopefully I can get a job after my next attachment ends. haha. did i tell you i'm trying out tuition?? HAH. me, a tuition teacher. I believe there are other fates worse than this, like death, but this comes pretty close i must admit. :p
and i just had to forget that we're going to Melbourne in the winter! so dumb of me to forget that they're in an entirely different hemisphere. sheesh. and Kai had to drop another bomb on me by telling me that we'll transit on the flight to Melbourne by stopping at KL first. siggghhhhh. did i tell you that i HATE flying? i especially HATE taking off! and now I have to take off twice on my way there. sigh. i'm sorry i'm practically whining but i really don't like planes and heights. :((
anyhow, at least i have some football news to cheer me up! just read that Chelsea are facing a fixture problem what with all the games that they're supposed to play in the coming months. there's even talk that they'll play 4 games in a week! HAH. i just wish Man Utd would face the same problem. haha. :p
Arsenal all the way!
:)
when will Justin EVER come back from camp?!

aargh!
Arsenal lost! :((
okay, don't panic. it really was a heartbreaking loss for me. i mean, we were dominating all the way and then Everton scored in injury time! :(
but i suppose, as an Arsenal fan who has weathered these two seasons with them, i am going to take some positives from the match yesterday. i really was quite pleasantly surprised to find out, after missing a couple of Arsenal games, that our youngsters are really quite good you know. i mean, our top 3 strikers are ALL injured and we had to look instead to other lesser-able players like Aliadiere (although i'm sure he's a good player). anyhow, i thought Diaby played very well. Toure and Gilberto too! my heroes. :))
so i guess, if there's ever need for some comfort, hey, we're still in third place, especially without the strength in depth that Liverpool, Man Utd and Chelsea can boast about. sure, we have lots of youngsters but please, compare say Alex Song against people like Shaun Wright-Phillips. it really is quite laughable that the other three teams are still not very distant from Arsenal in terms of points. haha. what a joke!
and although i'd like to say that money isn't everything, it is in this damn world of football. but, whatever it is, THEY (the other teams) can never boast a team that plays a brilliant game of football that is entertainment for all. at least as an Arsenal fan, i know for sure that when i switch on the tv, i will get to be entertained. what more can i ask from my team? :)
uhh. yes, and so begins my hate-hate affair with the bankrolled teams in the Premiership. get lost and find your own league man! i'd prefer to be ENTERTAINED.
