just recently, i've been hooked to this really frivolous MTV show called Laguna Beach. some of you may have heard of it and may have had a distinctly lower impression of me because of it but hell, i don't care. ((:
it's really absorbing i must tell you. it's just about a group of teenagers our age living in the so-called posh neighbourhood of Laguna Beach, California. i got hooked from the second season onwards and i just completed the entire third season. and so it may be slotted in the same category as all those air-headed shows on MTV like 'My Super Sweet Sixteen' (ugh, i hate, totally hate, that show) but let me tell you, it's never been further from such frivolty. haha. okay, so i'm a bit (slightly bit) biased but i don't believe my opinion is far from the truth.
at first, when you watch the first few episodes of the third season, i suppose the thoughts going through your head would run along the same line as mine. i was, i suppose, morbidly fascinated with how kids elsewehere in this world, mind you, kids the same age as us, could be so damn interested in human relationships. haha. and by that i mean boys and girlfights and stuff. but then later i realised it was so much more than that. hey, i face some of those same problems myself.
and so, the bottom line is: i came away with the reassurance that all teenagers, whereever they may be, face the same problems growing up. it's essentially the problem of self-esteem and how we look at ourselves. and that has helped me more than you can ever imagine. (:
amazed at my voyeuristic tendencies i may be, but i can't help but reminisce the times i've felt as lost as them all. so whilst the rest of the Asian teens grapple with late-night chinese/korean/japanese dramas, i have my own drama to look forward to, however westernised/americanised it may be.
Thank God i've found something else to watch. (:
by the way, you can watch all the episodes on:
www.lagunabeach.mtv.com
if for nothing else than to satisfy the voyeur within. haha. have fun! (:
P.S. if you think this post is un-Isabelle like, haha, i think so too. must be Laguna Beach then. hey, then you shouldn't watch it. (; i promise i'll return to my staid, sensible self soon enough. cheers!
